(Class Assignment)
It was a chilly autumn morning. It was quite early, too early in fact, to be awake. But Deepika didn’t mind. She enjoyed being up this early. She loved looking at the autumn leaves – all the reds, yellows, and oranges – fall gently. The beautiful red trees swayed in the light breeze. It was the perfect sight. She had lived in her house her entire life, and saw this view every year, but she would never tire of it. Autumn was truly lovely, and it was her favourite season. Her birthday was in autumn, after all. But after today, it would be even more special. She was getting married. Deepika was sitting on her window sill, sipping wine. She was sipping this amazing red wine, which was gifted to her by her to-be husband. She was enjoying the red wine in this amazing huge wine glass. She swirled her wine and smelled it and she took a sip. Red lehenga and a wine glass in her hand, the best kind of aesthetic. She was about to pour herself another glass, but she suddenly started hearing the sounds of drums and cheers. She looked out of the window, and she got that rush of adrenaline, because there it was, the wedding procession, dancing their way into the place.
The wedding procession had bought a brand new Ferrari 881, the Italian luxury sports car with them which was shining bright red and the acceleration of 688 horsepower was heard in surrounding and caught eyes of everyone around. The groom then got out of the Ferrari and went inside. Deepika’s family was ready to welcome the groom at the gate of the shamiyana. The wedding ceremony started. Deepika was brought to the venue by her friends and family. She entered with a bang and did catch everyone’s attention. As the ceremony began flowers began to fall. Soon, it was time for the main ritual in the ceremony. In every Indian wedding, putting a sindoor is the most important ritual that is carried out with extreme fervor. Sindoor signifies whether a girl is a spinster or not. It is put on the forehead of every married woman who chooses to follow the same tradition.
As the groom was about to put the sindoor the flames of the fire that were burning in front of them became wild. They erupted and almost burnt the eyebrows of the bride that had taken two hours to be in shape earlier that evening. “Help, somebody call for help” shouted the groom’s mother. The cousin from America called the fire safety department back in America to help with the fire. Naïve fellow, the American cousin. The long lost brother of the bride’s father’s third cousin dialed 102 for the Firetruck. Within no time the bright red truck was parked outside the venue and had extinguished the fire.
“This is a symbol sent from the universe, that they shouldn’t get married” whispered almost everyone. The groom turned towards the bride and to his astonishment he couldn’t find her. Nobody could.
Next day the headlines read “Groom eloped with the priest”.
