The Warrior Princess

(Class Assignment)

Once upon a time, in a land far away, lived a just King and a beautiful Queen who ruled the prosperous kingdom of Manchesterville. They had a daughter, Princess Hermione, who was as beautiful as her mother and as brave as her father. She was a warrior, and often fought alongside her father in battle. She also had a lovely white mare called Luna.
They lived a happy life in a magnificent castle and everyone in the kingdom was very fond of the royal family and the governance of their home. This had been the case for many years. However, the elders of the families did not forget the day when the King’s younger brother, Rudolphus, was banished from the kingdom. Rudolphus was an extremely petty man who had always been jealous of his brother. He thought that his brother did not deserve the throne and that he, Rudolphus, must be king. In order to achieve this, he had attempted to murder his brother, and was hence banished from the kingdom and was never spoken of again.
What the King and the people did not know, was that in all these years, Rudolphus travelled far and wide, trying to learn skills that would help him ascend to the throne. Then, one day, deep in the Northern Woods, he met an old wizard, who wore an emerald ring. However, it wasn’t just any ordinary emerald ring. The emerald was filled with powers which enabled the wizard to do magic, and gave him extraordinary wit, intelligence and strength. This tempted Rudolphus, and one night, he broke into the wizard’s home, killed him and stole the ring. And he was on his way to Manchesterville to complete his unfinished business.
A few days later, Princess Hermione was admiring the view of the kingdom from her balcony when she noticed something unusual. A black hooded figure was emerging from the forest, and was walking towards the castle.
‘I wonder who that is,’ she muttered to herself. Curious, she went downstairs and was about to enter the courtyard when she heard screams coming from the King’s court. Frightened, she stole a sword from her secret sword stash and entered the large room. What she saw was shocking. All the guards and her mother, the Queen, were lying on the floor, unable to move. In the centre were her father, and someone whom she never thought she would see. It was Rudolphus. She, like all other children in the kingdom, had grown up hearing stories about him and she recognised him immediately. His dark eyes and evil face gave it away.
‘Leave my father alone!’ yelled Hermione.
‘Who are you?’ asked Rudolphus.
‘I’m Hermione, Princess of Manchesterville, and Protector of the Kingdom,’ replied Hermione.
‘Oh, Protector of the Kingdom? Let’s see how well you do your job,’ sneered Rudolphus. With this, he pushed the King aside, and charged towards the Princess. But she was ready, she was a highly trained warrior after all.
She attacked him with her sword while dodging the chairs and vases that he was throwing at her with his magic. This went on for about 15 minutes before Hermione distracted him by speaking to him about all the harm he caused his family and managed to pin him down and snatch his ring.
Once the ring was off of him, he instantly became extremely weak and was easily overpowered by Hermione. At this moment, the guards got up and the King ordered them to take Rudolphus away.
‘Take him to the dungeons!’ he yelled, looking at his brother’s face, his voice full of anger.
Once the guards had taken Rudolphus away, the King and Queen ran towards their daughter.
‘Are you all right? Are you hurt?’ asked the Queen, worriedly.
‘I’m fine, mum,’ replied Hermione, not looking at her mother. She was staring at the ring in her hand. ‘There is one more thing that I need to do.’
She placed the ring on the floor and stabbed it with her sword, causing a bright light to be emitted from it as it lost all its powers.
‘I’m so proud of you, Hermione. You are the bravest person that I know,’ said the King, smiling fondly at his daughter.
‘Thank you, dad,’ replied Hermione, mirroring her father’s smile.
That night, a feast was held in the palace to honour Princess Hermione, where everyone from the kingdom was invited. This was one of the best nights of her life.

  1. Wonderful story of Hermione. U can develop this into a novel with all the interplay of palace politics and human nature meandering between the stark black and white exploring the grey areas. Rooted
